Pescara Ironman 70.3 2012 Results

June 10 2012 - Today the specialist Daniel Fontana won the second edition of the Italian Ironman in Pescara, situated at the Adriatic sunny seaside. Fontana completed ​​the whole race in 4 hours, 13 minutes and 25 seconds. In second place Alessandro De Gasperi who took only 6 seconds more than the winner, the third was the Englishman Paul Amey, one of the favorites, who completed  the three races in 4 hours, 18 minutes and 28. The local athlete from Pescara, Jonathan Ciavetella, who was the leader after the first two races with about 5 minutes ahead, was suddenly seized with cramps that were unexpectedly forced to retire when they had just begun the half marathon. This was a real disappointment to the many supporters. In the women came the first German Kristen Moller in 4 hours 47 minutes 58 seconds ahead of the Italian (South Tyrol) Edith Niederfringer. Athletes participating in this second edition of the Ironman in Pescara, which were measured at three endurance events, come from 42 countries (including Australia), among them some familiar names of specialties.

During the race an elderly woman was struck by a cyclist in the race. The lady tried to cross a road during the race, near Piazza Salotto. Moreover, an athlete was struck by a heart attack while disputing the swimming test. He is now hospitalized in serious condition at the Pescara Hospital.
